Welcome to Bar\Heart. I’m Amy Haimerl, and I'm glad you’re here!

What is a Bar\Heart, you ask? It’s my weekly newsletter exploring what it means to belong in America. Through essays, reportage and intimate conversations, we’ll discover the people and places that define us.

But Bar\Heart was also my family’s livestock brand. You knew Haimerl sheep by the \ ♡ -- pronounced bar heart -- branded on their flanks. My dad, Dick, always signed his love letters to my mom with that telltale mark:

\ ♡, D.

So what do you get if you subscribe (and I hope you do!)?

💌 A love letter from me each Tuesday.

🥃 A Cocktail Hour issue each Friday.

📡 Community, dialogue and discussion!

Along the way, I hope we’ll find out more about each other, our lives and the ties that bind us as Americans.

Subscribe below and take the journey with me.
